March is half over. Take a moment to let that sink in. We have survived the winter. Say a prayer thanking the Lord. Wedding planning is half over. Let me say another thank you prayer.
For me, life is moving at 1,000 miles an hour. I feel like I’ve completely lost sight of everything. I’m out of focus. January feels like eons ago. I forgot about the resolutions I set for myself. I don’t even remember making them.
As I said yesterday, I need to make a change in my life. I need to create concrete goals and a plan to work towards them. That’s why I feel the need to restate my resolutions here and tell about the progress, or lack thereof, that I have made towards completion. Maybe it’s for accountability. When I write things here, they seem more real, like I’m announcing them to the world… because I am.
Here we go.
KEEP MY WEDDING UNDER BUDGET.
Going okay. Our wedding date changed numerous times in January. We finally settled on a Sunday in May (just two months away from now). We have been able to save thousands of dollars by having the wedding at an all-inclusive venue and choosing a less popular day. I still hate how much we’re spending for a one day shindig, but I know we’ll cherish the memories for a lifetime. Our wedding is going to be cheaper than most people’s, but to some, it’s still extravagant. I can say with confidence it will cost just under $12,000. For a guest list of 125 people, that seems reasonable to me, based on how much others typically spend.
ADVANCE MY CAREER.
Changes are being made… slowly. Things are going to be changing in this realm very soon. When the time is right, I will let you all in on this very big secret. For now, I’m still getting my ducks in a row. This detail, however, will be life-changing, and it’s happening soon, so stay tuned!
Fail. Big time. In January, I hit the complex’s gym three times. I felt great after running, but then the frigid temps hit and leaving my house for anything more than work and walking Motley became impossible. I hate the cold, and every night after work, I would just come home, make dinner, and hit the sack. I could have done some circuits inside my apartment, but I just didn’t want to. Now that the weather has turned gorgeous, I’m going to do my best to get back into a routine of running at least twice a week.
PAY OFF ALL THE CREDIT CARD DEBT.
Fail. I admit, there will be no headway in this area until after the wedding. So many things have come up in just the first three months of 2015, the debt has been piling up. Having debt, and knowingly putting myself into more probably makes me look like a really crappy finance model, but life happens. I know that after the wedding, Mike and I will be going on a spending fast and the debt is going to die. We have big plans. On the other hand, we have kept our Discover card paid off. That is huge. One card down. Three more to go!
HAVE MY BRACES REMOVED.
Processing. I went to the orthodontist at the beginning of this month. I have another appointment in April. I told him back in January we had to get them off before the wedding, no matter what. Thankfully, we have fast tracked some things (and added some extra pain in the process), and we went ahead and set an appointment to have them taken off on May 4. I am SO excited for this. I will have had the braces on for nearly four years in May. Funny fact: Mike has never even SEEN me without braces.
DECLUTTER MY LIFE.
Going well. Since the warmer weather has arrived, I have been switching out my wardrobes. I don’t have a lot of clothes or shoes, especially compared to other women. However, I seem to have a lot of clothes that I don’t wear because they’re just not me anymore. I have decided to toss/donate a lot of it. I’m also selling books I don’t read or want anymore. Mike and I may be moving to a bigger apartment soon, so decluttering would definitely make that easier. Overall, I think I’m headed in the right direction.
So that’s where I’m at with resolutions. I have a feeling a lot of this is going to be changing after our wedding. Of course, you’ll learn why very soon, when I make my big announcement. I plan on going into my 101 in 1001 list soon too. I’m going to talk about the things I’ve completed, and the things I know I’m never going to get done because my priorities have changed. That should be interesting.
How are your resolutions going? Have they become just a memory?
